Amina Ahsan is the daughter of Dr. Aamir Ahsan and Modesrah Ahmed. She was the Vice President of the Muslim Student Association for two years and was corresponding secretary of the National Honor Society; Amina was also co-leader of the anti bullying group Empathy For All (EFA) and a member of the Varsity Lacrosse Team, Science Olympiad, Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA) and World Culture’s Club.

Amina was selected to represent Carman-Ainsworth High School at a Leadership Conference in Toronto, Canada, as well as being chosen as the Rotary Club student of the month in May 2013. Amina will be attending the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in the fall of 2014, where she will major in Psychology.

 

Meghan Borgerding is the daughter of Andy & Debbie Holloway and Dave Borgerding. She was captain of the varsity golf team four years and was awarded all-conference and all-conference academic. As a four year member of the varsity softball team she was awarded all-conference academic and honorable mention. She also received the Saginaw Valley female scholar athlete of the year award in 2014. Meghan is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and the National Honor Society where she is also the Historian. She has been a member of the FIRST® Robotics organization for 9 years and was a FLL World Champion in 2009. Meghan will be attending Kettering University where she has received the Kettering FIRST® Robotics Scholarship. She has taken a co-op position with BOSCH Multimedia Group in Novi, MI.

 

 

Kristen Borse* is the daughter of Gary and Kim Borse. She served as the Executive Board Treasurer of National Honor Society and Senior Class Secretary of Student Council. Kristen was the Rotary student of the month for January 2013. She is a four year member of the varsity girl’s lacrosse team, having been a captain for 2 years and, this year, earned First Team All-League for defense. Kristen is a 6 year member of the Blue Brigade marching band, and has been a member of the Symphony Band for the past 4 years. She received the Band Director’s Award and was the recipient of the Martin Music Scholarship this year. Kristen has worked at Rave Cinemas for the past six months. She plans on attending Michigan State University for the fall of 2014.

 

Teresa Covert is the daughter of Dale and Patti Covert. She was a member of the Blue Brigade marching band for four years. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and the 21 Club. Teresa has received the Board of Regents Scholarship from Baker College, where she will be attending in the fall to study to become a veterinary technician. She is currently working at West Flint Animal Hospital.

 

 

 

Chris Crowder is the son of Carl and Deborah Crowder. He was a member of the varsity tennis team for four years and the varsity baseball team for two years. While on the tennis team, he earned two First Team All Saginaw Valley awards and two Saginaw Valley All Academic awards. In his junior year, he won the team MVP and team Spirit awards. Chris was also a six year member of the Blue Brigade marching band where he played tuba. He was also a member of NHS, the CORE team, and CATV broadcasting. He received the Jean Fairfax and Martin Luther King, Jr. scholarships from the University of Michigan, where he will be attending in the fall. While there, he will study Communications and Screen Arts & Cultures.

 

 

Megan Floyd is the daughter of Sue and Doug Floyd. She was in Movie Club for one year, National Honor Society for two years, and has been in Student Council for four years. In Student Council, Megan was first a class representative, then became a Class Officer Secretary, and was Executive Board Secretary for the past two years. For National Honor Society, Megan has volunteered for the school and for her community by volunteering for the local food drive held by the Boy Scouts of America. She has also participated in the band program for many years. She has been in the Symphony Band for three years and has been in the Blue Brigade marching band for four years. Megan will be attending Eastern Michigan University’s Honor College in the fall studying to become a Biologist.

 

 

Ma’lik Gill is the son of Christopher and Tammie Gill. He was a member of freshman and JV football, track, and swim. He was also a member of National Honor Society, Muslim Student Association, and African American Student Association. He has started his own club called Volunteering for All (VFA). It is a club created for all high school students to give back in their community. He started this group with his adviser, Mr. Iseler. Ma’lik has volunteered in soup kitchens, food drives, clothing drives, car wash fundraisers, and all over the school. He also works at Finishline in the Genesee Valley Mall as a sales associate. He will be attending Michigan State University in the fall to study Mechanical Engineering or Architecture.

 

 

Brennen Gleason is the son of Bill and Katrina Gleason. As a three year varsity basketball player, Brennen was a captain this past year, was a two-time Cavalier with Character, Most Improved Player, SVL South All-Academic Team, and Second Team SVL South. As a four year varsity baseball player, Brennen was a two-time captain, member of the SVL South All-Academic team, and  Second Team Pitcher SVL South. He was also a member of the National Honor Society, CORE Team, and Student of the Month in May 2013. In his spare time he also helps coach the Great Lakes Cyclones Baseball Team. Brennen has received the Trustee Scholarship at Kettering where he will be attending in July to study mechanical engineering.

 

 

Kyle Glinka is the son of Carrie Glinka (Rex) and Jeff Glinka (Laura). He played three years of soccer and three years of swimming where he was awarded Saginaw Valley Conference three year all academic team. He was a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, 21 Club, HOSA, African American Student Association, and Students for Christ. He won first place at the regional HOSA competition, and came in third place at the State HOSA competition. He has traveled to New York for three consecutive years for missions trips and is a leader in prayer group at Riverdale Baptist Church. Kyle will be attending Calvin College in Grand Rapids to study nursing and ministry. With these two bachelor’s degrees he will be serving in medical missions across the world.

 

Duralle Hare is the son of Rev. Gregory and Marsha Hare. He is a member of The Cross Missionary Baptist Church and participates as a keyboardist for the choir and member of the usher board. He has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2012 and a member of the Carman-Ainsworth bowling team for three years. He is a member of the Alpha Esquire mentoring group sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Flint Alumni Chapter. In 2013, he was a recipient of the “I Can Make History” Kroger Scholarship in the music category. He will attend Eastern Michigan University on an all tuition paid scholarship in pursuit of a degree in Simulation, Animation, and Gaming starting fall 2014.

 

 

Sarah Hyde* is the daughter of John and Lisa Hyde. As a two-year varsity tennis player, she was awarded last year’s most improved player. She was also involved in Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA), the past two years and was elected as this year’s vice president. She is currently working at Tim Horton’s. Sarah will be attending Grand Valley State University, where she will earn her bachelor’s degree of science in Nursing.

 

 

 

Katlyn Koegel* is the daughter of John and Lisa Koegel. She has been an active member of the Blue Brigade marching band for the last five years and drum major for the last two. She has been a three-year member of the Varsity Softball Team, and one-year member of the club lacrosse team. She made Big Nine honorable mention as a freshman and first team as a sophomore. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years, and was president this year. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Flint where she serves on the Youth Leadership Team and Service Team. She helped in planning, and attended a mission trip to Costa Rica in 2013. She has been a cellist for the past twelve years, and has spent the last four playing with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra. She has travelled to France and most recently Ireland with the Orchestra as part of an international exchange. Katyln will be attending Hope College next year and plans to study Political Science and International Studies.

 

Kenzey Lord is the daughter of Garnett and Kathy Lord. She was a four year varsity bowler and a three year varsity diver. She was the captain of the bowling team all four years and awarded most valuable bowler and the most spirited in two of her four years. She was a three year First Team All-Conference member and she made the All-State Academic team. She is also a two year member of Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA). She competed in HOSA regionals in the category of medical assisting. In 2013 she placed first and in 2014 she took third. She qualified for states both years. She has volunteered at four blood drives at Carman-Ainsworth High School and has helped raised money for groups like the American Breast Cancer Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Kenzey has received an Education First Opportunity Scholarship and will be attending Eastern Michigan University in the fall of 2014. She is going to major in nursing but wants to become a neonatal nurse in the future.

 

Jacob MacDermaid is the son of Kevin and Rebecca MacDermaid. Jacob was a member of the National Honor Society. He was also a member of Student Council for two years where he was treasurer his senior year. Jacob played soccer for four years and was a member of the Saginaw Valley Conference All Academic Team. He was also involved in travel soccer for the Flint Steelers Soccer Club. Jacob participated in the FIRST® Robotics FRC Team 314 his senior year. He is currently working for Landmark Appraisal. Jacob will attend Kettering University in July to major in Computer Engineering.

 

 

Cionna Orr* is the daughter of Cardi Wallace-Orr and Alphonzo Orr. She was a member of National Honor Society and in Student Council; she served as class president in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade and was the Executive Board President during her senior year. Cionna played flute and piccolo as a member of the Blue Brigade marching band for three years and also played flute in the Symphony Band for three years. In addition, she participated in Quiz Bowl, Model UN, and has been a dedicated volunteer at Hurley Medical Center for two and a half years. In sports, she was a member of the Saginaw Valley Conference All Academic Team for Varsity Bowling and Varsity Tennis. She also received Honorable Mention in tennis for the Saginaw Valley Conference. This past summer, she traveled to Italy, Sicily, and Greece and later in her senior year she participated in the Distinguished Young Women of Michigan program representing Flint. At her church, she serves as the president of the Youth Leadership Council and is involved in the mime ministry. She will be attending Tufts University in the fall, majoring in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Spanish.

 

Sarah Owens is the daughter of James and Lisa Owens. She was a member of the varsity lacrosse team for four years and the swim team for one year. For two years Sarah has participated as an honorary Student Council member. She has also participated in the Blue Brigade marching band for four years. Sarah currently holds a part-time job at Tim Horton’s. She has received the Board of Regent’s Scholarship and will be attending Baker College in the fall to study criminal justice.

 

 

 

Rani Richardson is the daughter of Dr. Recco and Rene Richardson. She was a member of the varsity track and field team for four years, and varsity cross country for two years. She also played basketball for two years. Rani was given the Hardest Working Runner award in 2012 and named captain of the track and field team her senior year. She also was awarded Most Valuable Runner in cross country in 2011. She earned her place on the Saginaw Valley Conference All-Academic team as well. Rani was awarded the Presidential Scholarship from her exchange program, with which she studied abroad internationally in South Africa from 2012-2013. She then authored her book, Living in South Africa (2014). Rani was a member of Carman-Ainsworth’s 21 Club for two years and National Honor Society for three years. She was part of the school’s band program for many years as well, playing flute and saxophone. She also participated in several out-of-school activities. She attended Michigan State University’s two week “STEM” program in 2009, Lake Superior State University’s “Women in Robotics” weeklong camp in 2012, and the weeklong Michigan Freedom Academy summer program in 2011. She also was runner-up in the Genesee County Spelling Bee Championship in 2012.

A life-long resident of Flint Township, Rani does a good deal of volunteer work. She has served as a student volunteer at Hurley Medical Center and Genesee County Free Medical Clinic since 2013. She also has engaged in community-based academic tutoring in her spare time since 2010.

Rani received a generous Penn Award from the University of Pennsylvania. She plans to continue volunteer work and begin biology/pre-medical studies at the school in the fall.

 

Joelle Summers is the daughter of Viva and Emanuel Summers. She was a part of the Symphony Band for two years and the Blue Brigade marching band for one year. She was also a cheerleader. As a four year member of the Carman-Ainsworth Cheerleading program, she earned two consecutive Most Improved awards and two  All Academic awards. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and served as a sophomore representative on the Student Council. She will be attending Eastern Michigan University where she plans to major in Psychology.

 

 

 

Frederick Van Duyne* is the son of Ann Marie Van Duyne and Alexander Van Duyne. He was a four-year member of the CAF Varsity Swim Team. He served on the Carman-Ainsworth Board of Education for two years as the Junior Class and subsequently Senior Class Student Representative. He was a member of NHS and Student Council his Junior and Senior years, and was class President his senior year. Frederick was a member of the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra and First Presbyterian Church Youth Leadership Team throughout high school. He will work at Springhill Camps this summer as a counselor, and will take a gap year before matriculating to Yale University in the fall of 2015.

 

 

 

Jaylyn Williams-Boone has been an active member within his church, school, and community while attending Carman-Ainsworth High School. In the midst of playing three varsity sports he managed to maintain a 3.85 cumulative GPA with three AP classes. Upon graduation, Jaylyn will be attending Michigan Tech University on a full scholarship where he will be playing football and studying Supply Chain and Operations Management.
