YouthQuest Update
Middle School Students from Carman-Ainsworth, International Academy of Flint, Kuehn-Haven and Lakeville all took part in the first of five weeks of enriching experiences. These experiences include trips off campus, overnight stays and leadership opportunities. During this period all students will be challenged, praised, mentored, inspired and engaged. Week one started off deep in the woods at Ligon Outdoor Recreation Center. Students were transitioned into groups and led through team-building, problem- solving and skilled challenges that allowed for teamwork and leaders to emerge. Students entered the woods as individuals and came out as a unit! Due to the weather, the newly formed unit spent day two at the home base of Word of Life Church in Flint. Guides entertained the group with several activities to familiarize themselves with each other by learning names, likes and dislikes. Students also participated in a group wide game of extreme musical chairs. This game sent 120 students through a maze of chairs eventually crowning one winner! The week ended with groups being separated and bussed to two different locations. Group A went to play disc golf and were rained out after two rounds of action. Group B were able to beat the rain and enjoy kayaking and canoeing in Columbiaville. For some, this was a totally new experience which caused them to depend on their shipmates to navigate the waves! Overall, the first week set the level of expectations very high for the remainder of the Summer Program. Judging from the upcoming schedule, students are in for even more fun and enriching experiences in the weeks to come!
