Detra Fields Wins Regional Honors Award

The Dye Elementary Principal, Detra Fields, was honored with an award at the The Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA) 87th Annual State Conference held on December 5-7. The award ceremony was held at the Detroit Marriot at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. The regional award is presented to a single administrator in each of fourteen MEMSPA regions in Michigan.

MEMSPA is an association of over 1,000 statewide members dedicated to serving pricipals primarily through professional development and advocacy.

Detra was recognized for her educational leadership, and her commitment to enriching the educational lives of the students she serves. She received recognition and her nomination from her peers, and approval by the region’s executive board.

Detra Fields started as a classroom teacher in the Carmen-Ainsworth distract for 4 years, and then was selected as Assistant Principal at Randels Elementary where she served for 2 years. Her leadership skills and passion for teaching lead her to become the Principal at Dye Elementary, where she has been for 6 years.

As a Principal she has made strides in establishing innovative approaches to scheduling to ensure uninterrupted intervention blocks. She also holds Student Intervention and Data Review team meetings to monitor every student’s progress. She is credited with substantially narrowing the achievement gap for students attending for a full academic year. Teachers admire her ability to drive everyone to grow professionally utilizing PLCs effectively.

Region X is honored to be represented by such a committed, passionate, and inspiring leader for its 2012 Regional Honors.
