Welcome Back Carman-Ainsworth Cavaliers!

The beginning of a new school year reminds us that the future holds infinite possibilities. We hope that your summer was relaxing, filled with adventures and good health because you deserve it! We know that this school year will begin filled with hope, vision and excitement. We wish everyone the greatest success as we welcome our students to their educational journey of 2019-2020.

The 2018-2019 school year was yet another opportunity to celebrate the combined efforts of our school and community that resulted in outstanding student accomplishments. The 2019 graduating class of Carman-Ainsworth High School once again amassed nearly $4 million in college scholarships while attaining over 600 college credits. The 2019 graduating class of Carman-Ainsworth Baker Career Academy earned a combined total of 345 college credits. In the past two school years, graduating seniors from Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools have earned nearly $10 million in college scholarships and earned a combined 1,696 college credits. Our students continue to take advantage of the many opportunities to enroll in our Dual Enrollment Educational Partnerships and our two outstanding Early College options with Carman-Ainsworth U of M Flint STEM Early College and the Carman-Ainsworth Baker Career Academy Early College. As the new school year begins, we look forward to providing these opportunities to even more students.

This year we will continue to provide valuable resources to all Carman-Ainsworth students such as a free health clinic and free breakfast and lunch at all of our schools. As you know, our partnership with the Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools (RAHS) at Michigan Medicine provides students and families with a health-based clinic on the campus of Carman-Ainsworth High School. Please take advantage of many resources offered by the clinic such as:

• Immunizations

• Physical Exams

• Sick Visits

• Nutrition Counseling

• Health and Fitness Education Programs & Groups

• Confidential Mental Health Services and Psychotherapy

• Vision Screening

• Referrals for Community Resources

Thank you to all of our parents for completing the Household Information Report that ensures our continued partnership with the Community Eligibility Provision. As you recall, the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a program designed to help provide free breakfast and lunch for all students. As in the past, this eliminates the difficulty in collecting and processing free and reduced-price meal applications. We are excited to once again offer this program for the 2019-2020 school year.

School Safety continues to be the focal point in providing an atmosphere and culture in which students, staff, families, and visitors feel welcome and supported. The safety and security of our students is paramount in the success of the programs, services, and initiatives that we provide, participate or institute within our district. Please continue to partner with us to ensure that our safety protocols are adhered to on a daily basis. As a reminder:

• Michigan law requires that all K-12 schools conduct at least three lockdown drills per school year. Schools are also required to provide a list of scheduled fire, tornado, and lockdown drills to their county emergency management coordinator no later than September 15 of each school year.

• All of our instructional buildings have single-point entry areas with surveillance cameras and buzz ringer/alert systems. Building doors are locked during school hours and those who enter or visit are directed to the single point entry area.

• Our district has established outstanding partnerships with our local Police and First Responder Community. We are fortunate to have School Resource Officers on several of our campuses.

Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools has and will continue to invest in safety resources that provide additional layers of security district-wide. Although we adhere to a high degree of safety requirements and standards, we constantly evaluate our current procedures in an effort to stay up-to-date with practices that enhance the safety and security of our buildings.

In closing, the Carman-Ainsworth Community School’s staff continues to work tirelessly to make our schools a place where your child wants to come each and every day to challenge themselves and to achieve at his or her highest academic capacity. We all care deeply about the success of our children! We are lucky to have such a dedicated and caring staff whose focus and priorities are all in the right places – building positive relationships with each and every student! Our students and staff strive to live our Code of Conduct by demonstrating respect, honesty, courage, compassion, and responsibility and our parents and the entire community model these same values for our students. I am so proud to be your Superintendent of Schools and will also work tirelessly to make sure this strong spirit continues to thrive in Carman-Ainsworth! We are all so very proud to be CARMAN-AINSWORTH CAVALIERS!
