• Was in the 1st – 3rd ranking positions all weekend mainly 1st and 2nd
• Was selected by the 1st Alliance Captain to be a partner which was the Team 2337, Grand Blanc Enginerds
• Played in the Elimination matches. Went all the way to the finals.
• We won the Motorola Quality Award. This award celebrates machine robustness in concept and fabrication. The winning team has demonstrated these characteristics in many ways from planning through execution. Building the robot is only part of their success and the judges recognize them as a quality example to others. The following is how the judges worded it for our team ” This team showed forceful robustness in design, build and control with control over the playing “Pit.” They hatched a bot that could shoot venom like a viper with speed and accuracy.”
• We are also the 2014 Kettering University FIRST® Robotics District Competition Winners. Our Alliance was Team 2337, Grand Blanc Enginerds (Captians) and Team 5081 Lumbernators, Bay City.
• Because of these efforts we are currently in 5th place out of about 150 teams that played in the State of Michigan with 69 points earned towards the Michigan FRC State Championship.

Our next competitions are the following:

March 28 – 29, 2014   Livonia District Competition. (Churchill High School)

April 4 – 5, 2014  Lansing District Competition  (Mason High School)

When we qualify (will know after the Livonia District), the Michigan FRC State Championship will be April 10 – 12, 2014.

There was a house fire experienced by one of our Randels families recently. There are still many needs, especially clothes for the older child. Clothing items and sizes still needed include:

Boys Pants size 10
Boys Shirts 10/12
Boots and tennis shoes size 5 boy
Boots and tennis shoes size 8 toddler boy.

They are also in need of household items as well. You may send/bring donations to Randels Elementary.

Thursday, February 20, 2014 the Learning Community Head Start Program had Around the World Night.  It was for students 3 to 5 years of age that attend The Learning community.  Here are a few pictures of the art work they created.

1. What is the Michigan Child Protection Registry?
The Michigan Child Protection Registry was created by the Michigan State Legislature in 2004 as a do-not-contact service for Michigan families. The Michigan Child Protection Registry is a free, state administered program that allows Michigan’s families to protect their households from adult-oriented messages.

2. What addresses are eligible for registration?
You can register e-mail addresses, mobile phone numbers (SMS), instant messenger IDs, and fax numbers.

3. What types of adult-oriented messages are my addresses protected from?
Family’s sign up their addresses are protected from messages that advertise pornography, tobacco, illegal drugs, alcohol, and gambling. The newest effort for these types of companies is to text their ads to any cell phone numbers they can find.

4. Does the registry only protect children?
No. The Michigan Child Protection Registry can include:
– Family addresses (both adults and children)
– Addresses in a household where a child is present
– School domains (students and educators)

5. How much does it cost to sign up my addresses?
This is a free program offered to residents by the State of Michigan.

6. How do I sign up my addresses?
Registering your addresses is quick and easy. Go to www.protectmichild.com, click “Protect Your Household Addresses”, and follow the steps to register your household addresses.

7. How can I send my friends information on how to register?
To send your friends, family, co-workers and neighbor’s information on how to register, simply send them a “refer a friend” e-mail after you register, and an automatic message on the Registry will be sent to their inbox.

8. How often do I need to renew the registration of my addresses?
Registrations last for three years with the option to renew at any time. You will receive a notification e-mail reminding you that the three year time period has expired.

9. Are my addresses safe?
Senders of messages are NEVER given registered addresses. Marketers and companies are required to submit their solicitation lists to the state, where all registered addresses are then removed and returned to the sender.

10. What if I receive an adult message after I sign up my addresses?
If you are contacted with a message to a registered address, you should submit the report to the Division of Consumer Protection. The process is easy and allows you to help the state investigate those companies who are not complying with Michigan’s Child Protection Registry Laws.

11. Which state office administrates the Michigan Child Protection Registry?
The Michigan Child Protection Registry is administered by the Michigan Public Service Commission and enforced by the State Attorney General’s Office.

Marketers pay a fee of .007 cents for each address they scrub to the state registry. Funds generated by the program are set aside to fund the Attorney General’s Office in the maintenance and upkeep for the program.

The Young Peoples Ballet Theatre presents Sleeping Beauty! The show runs from March6-9 with various showings.

The FIA’s College Town Student Advisory Council will present the fourth annual “Create Your Own Masterpiece” Lego® Competition on Saturday, February 22 beginning at 1:00p. Competing for this year’s prize in the popular intercollegiate event will be teams from Baker College, Kettering University, Mott Community College, and the University of Michigan-Flint.

A family event for students grades K-12 will also be held in the Art School. Young Lego® enthusiasts are invited to display unique and original creations of their own design for a chance to win Art School gift certificates and Family Memberships.

Instructional Support Services are offered to students at Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools. English is Second Language (ESL) program provides English language instruction to students who are English Language Learners (ELL) and instructional support to building staff. In coordination with the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD), a Language Line Service has been established to assist parents and school staff communicate for school enrollment and student educational progress. Language Line Service can be utilized either in person at our school buildings or by contacting the building the student attends by phone, or by calling the Student Support Service Office and ask for language interpreter assistance.
