Legacy Capstone Project
Kudos to CAHS Senior Norman Kolena! His Legacy Capstone Project for English 12 was to set up a Toys for Tots drop off center at the CA High School Media Center. Toys and monetary donations are being accepted through Friday, March 14. Norman will be joining the marines this summer and wanted to do a project focused on his love of the military, but also one that serves his community. Any support will be greatly appreciated. MME Testing Week Information
The link at the bottom is information for 11th Graders, should you have any questions. It might make sense for both Chemistry and English 11 to review the information, particularly the schedule (no late start on Wednesday), what they need to bring, and the “rules” (no phones, no bubbling after a session ends, don’t be late, etc.). This week, I will be calling 11th grade students down who have not completed their pre-registration.
9th and 10th Graders will need to know:
- the schedule –> NO school for them on Tuesday 3/4
- Report to school for 7:20 start on both Wednesday and Thursday (no late start). Room schedules will be posted and sent out later this week.
12th Graders will need to know: (there are a few 12th grade testers)
- No school on 3/4
- Report to school at 10:45 Wednesday 3/5 (lunch will be attached to 1st hour) Hours 1-3 run
- Report to school at 10:45 Thursday 3/6 (lunch will be attached to 4th hour as usual) Hours 4-6 run
- Buses will run for 12th graders approximately 3-1/2 hours later than a normal day (so if their bus normally comes at 6:30 – it should come around 10 – they should talk to their driver).

Jessica Robinson is currently a 3.9 GPA student, member of the African American Students Assoc. Jessica is active in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church youth group. She also is a part of Keystone Boys and Girls Club National Project which focuses on career prep, academic success and volunteer projects. Jessica also regularly Feeds the homeless at Northend soup kitchen and Participates in the Teen jury program. CEO program full ride scholarship to University of Michigan flint.
Selena Mendoza was chosen, from the art department, as Rotary Student of the Month. Selena carries with her a grade point average of an overall 3.1; she also maintains an A standing in my Art III course. Although Selena does not have a plethora of academic achievements, she continues to thrive toward doing something, in her words, no-one in her family has ever done before: attending college. Being the recipient of “Foster Child of the Month” and the potential 1st generation college student, I believe Selena will endure and meet her accomplishment. Research has shown that the more students are engages in extracurricular events and activities, the more successful academically they will become. Selena is attempting just that by participating as a player on her soft ball team, entering countless art projects and competitions just to name a few. Her aspirations of becoming a CSI and a Criminal Investigator are attainable, and I believe she will do just that.
Hanieya Ross plans to attend the University of Houston to pursue a degree in psychiatry. She currently has a GPA of 3.7 and is involved in the African American Student Association, DECA and JV Cheerleading. She has won numerous awards including $500 award for writing. She sets high standards for herself and consistently meets or exceeds them. She takes class time seriously and always shows respect to classmates. In her free time Hanieya babysits and volunteers at a clinic.
Cameron Edwards has been involved in many groups at C-A. These have included: Concert Band, Men’s Choir, Drama Club, Chorale, Broadcasting, and Empathy for All. His most notable accomplishment to date has been being among eight high school seniors in Michigan invited by Pistons legend Rick Mahorn to participate in the Pistons Black History Month scholarship competition. He had only one week to prepare his video and speech for the competition on the themed topic of “Dream Big Detroit”. His speech and video was received with high praise, and he was awarded first runner up in the competition. Cameron received $5000 to go to the school of his choice to help pay for his education after CAHS. He plans to use this scholarship to attend U of M Flint to study Communications.
