Emily Bodine is the daughter of James and Lory Bodine. She was a member of the National Honor Society where she held the office of Junior Representative. She’s an active volunteer at Michigan Christian Youth Camp and the Food Bank of Michigan. She has enjoyed the Fine Arts program at CAHS. She was a three-year member of Chorale serving as Secretary her senior year. She was also a three-year member of Thespian Troupe 1360. She performed in eight theatre productions and received the Troupe 1360 Honor Thespian Award. She loves to dance and is a proud five-year member of Terry Matlock School of Performing Arts competitive dance team placing in the top five at the national level. She has been accepted to Rochester College in the Honors Program. She plans to major in Secondary Education in hopes of becoming a Biology teacher.

 

John Collins is the son of Mike and Marcy Collins. He has excelled academically, holding a 3.9 GPA, a 31 ACT score, and excelling in the AP classes he has taken. He has been a  member of the varsity soccer team for two years. He received the Big Nine and the Saginaw Valley Conference All Academic while on the team. He is a member of the National Honor Society. John has attended Bethany Baptist Church of Burton all of his life and is a very active part of the church volunteering in many areas. He was a member of BMA for 3 years and this year received Career and Technical Education Student of the Year. John was a member of The 21 Club, receiving an ACT Excellence Award, a Michigan Competitive Scholarship and Detroit Free Press Scholar-Athlete. He will be attending University of Michigan-Flint on a 4 year full ride (Michigan Merit Scholarship) as well as being a part of the Honors Program. He is currently working at Landmark Appraisal and doing webpage designs on the side. His goals are to go through the Computer Science BS/MS program or to complete a MS and MBA in Computer Science and Information Systems.

 

Alysia Greig is the daughter of Cindy and Robert Greig. She was a three year member of Chorale, the varsity choir, where she was elected to hold the office of treasurer in her senior year. She was also a member of the theatre/drama program, where she worked on every show since her sophomore year, ended up putting in over 600 hours of work, and was also inducted as a thespian. In her junior year Alysia was accepted as a member of the National Honor Society, through which she began volunteering at Rankin Elementary as a media assistant and reading tutor for second graders. Alysia has received the full Emerald Scholarship for Eastern Michigan University, where she will be attending and majoring in English in the fall.

 

Allia Howard is the daughter of Rickey and Cynthia Howard. She has consistently held an active role in student government, and was granted the honor of addressing the entire student body as senior class president in a first day of school speech. She was also involved with the National Honor Society, serving as the treasurer of the executive board her senior year. Moreover, Allia held student representative positions on two curriculum committees to aid in the improvement of the school’s plans and learning objectives. She was additionally a saxophonist in the Blue Brigade marching band for three years. During her junior year she was awarded the Rotary Club Student of the Month of May. In athletics, she was a four-year varsity swimmer, two-year captain. She was also a four-year club lacrosse player, three-year captain. During her junior and senior years on the varsity swim team she was awarded ‘Most Valuable Swimmer.’ Additionally, she was named First Team All-League during the years of 2010 and 2011 for the Big Nine Conference. In 2012, she was named Second Team All-Conference for the Saginaw Valley Conference. For lacrosse, during her junior year she was awarded ‘Most Valuable Player.’ She was also named Second Team All-League for lacrosse during the year of 2011 and Second Team All-Conference during the year of 2013. She is a law intern at a local law firm and has worked as a certified lifeguard at the YMCA of Greater Flint in Flushing, and also for the Carman-Ainsworth Learning Community. Allia will be attending Kalamazoo College in the fall to major in business/pre-law, play varsity lacrosse. She aspires to attend law school to study corporate law.

Ashleigh King is the daughter of Frederick and Bethany. As a varsity swimmer, Ashleigh was named First Team Big Nine, Most Improved Player, and All-State Academic. Ashleigh has also participated on the girls varsity tennis team for two years, holding the position of four-singles. As a four year member of student council, Ashleigh has held offices of freshman representative, sophomore vice president, junior secretary, and finally made it to the top as the executive board president. Being a part of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) for two years she has served as the executive board vice president.

Ashleigh has earned two gold medals in creative problem solving at HOSA regionals in 2011 and 2012, she also took home the bronze medal at the state level in 2011. Being the vice president of the National Honor Society, Ashleigh has participated in many community service projects. Ashleigh will be attending the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, double majoring in English and Business while also obtaining her medical school prerequisites.

Steven Little is the son of James and Trixy Little. He was on the A and B Honor Roll throughout his high school career. He participated in Community Based Instruction (CBI) with jobs at Randels Elementary and Ruggero’s restaurant. His goal after graduation is to go to Michigan Career & Technical Institute and study for Graphic Design or Machine Design.

 

Aubrey Mikovits is the daughter of Damon and Jennifer Sewell. She is graduating with Highest Honors and a grade point average of 3.92. As a member of the varsity volleyball team, she received an Individual All-Academic Award, Big 9 Athletic Conference All-Academic Award, and the Saginaw Valley Conference All-Academic Award. As a member of the varsity softball team, she received the Big 9 Athletic Conference All-Academic Award. Aubrey also received the United States Marine Corp Distinguished Athlete Award. She has participated in HOSA Regionals and States, National Technical Honors Society, and The 21 Club. She currently works at VG’s Grocery Center. Aubrey has been accepted to Eastern Michigan University and has obtained a scholarship to help further her education. She plans to major in Biology with the aspirations of becoming a dentist.

Maxwell Montney is the son of Anthony and Kay Montney. Max has played the trombone since 5th grade. He has marched for the Carman-Ainsworth Blue Brigade for two years and finished his last three years in symphony band. He completed the TeenQuest program through the chamber of commerce and has worked very hard to keep his GPA up for his entire four years of high school. Max has also participated in the CA Corps program for two years. His interests are to join the Navy or accept a scholarship to the University of Michigan-Flint.

Christine Michaela-Kay Nogaj is the daughter of Kathleen Marie Waters and Trenton Louis Nogaj. While being on the Honor Roll all throughout high school, she was a member of Student Council, Drama Club, the Theatrical Performances, and the varsity Cheerleading team for four years. For three years, she was involved with Chorale. For two years, she was a part of Choraleers, Theatre State Board, Flint Youth Theatre, and National Honor Society. Michaela also took vocal lessons and participated in Flint Community Players for one year. By Michaela’s senior year, she was involved with all of the aforementioned extracurricular activities as they continued to layer each other since the start of her freshman year. As a junior, Michaela was the Scribe on the Drama  Club board and the Junior Representative on the Executive Board on Student Council. This past year, she was the Vice President and Scribe on the Drama Club board and the Senior Class Secretary on Student Council. Michaela received the Great Attitude Award and Most Improved Cheerleader Award in 2010 for cheerleading, the Excellence in Theatre Award and International Honor Thespian Award this year for theatre, and the Senior Chorale Award this year for choir. In scholarships, Michaela was offered $16,000 from Siena Heights University, $4,000 from both Central Michigan University and Eastern Michigan University, and $2,000 from the University of Findlay. She was also awarded the Joe Lilly Memorial Theatre Scholarship from CA Theatre and the Theatre and Dance Scholarship worth $1,200 from the University of Michigan-Flint where she will be attending in the upcoming fall to major in Theatre and minor in Musical Theatre and Dance.

Dana Pittman is the daughter of Q.B. and Cheryl Pittman. Dana has participated in all eight seasons of cheerleading during her high school career. As a two year varsity cheerleader she has been recognized as a scholar athlete and as a member of both the Big Nine and Saginaw Valley League All-Academic team. Dana has also participated in nine productions and performances through Carman-Ainsworth theatre. She is a three year member of Carman-Ainsworth Chorale and served as one of two historians during her senior year. Throughout high school Dana has been involved in clubs and organizations such as Students 4 Christ, Drama Club, CORE, and Empathy for All. Dana has been a part of NHS for two years and served as recording secretary. Dana has been involved in Student Council for three years serving as junior class treasurer and executive board treasurer and has been recognized as this year’s Student Council Member of the Year. Dana will be attending the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where she plans to study Psychology with a focus in criminology.

Maeonna Polacek is the daughter of Earslene Coward, Shawn Polacek, Albert Coward, and Robyn Polacek. She was a member of the varsity track team for two years. In those two years she was a Big 9 All Conference in 2012 in the events of 1600 Meter Relay, Long Jump, and Pole Vault. Also within those two years she was a Saginaw Valley All Conference in the event of Pole Vault. Maeonna has also been a member of the junior varsity basketball team for two years; there she received the award of Most Improved Player in 2010. She receive other awards such as: MHSAA Scholar Athlete and Big 9 All Academic Team. Because she had great academics she was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated “With High Honors” with a 3.8 GPA. In the fall she will be attending Western Michigan University to study Psychology.

Raven Pompey is the daughter of LaTonya Brown-Pompey. She was a six-year member of the Blue Brigade. As a four-year member of the Symphony Band, she earned Division I ratings at District and State Solo & Ensemble with flute and piccolo solo performances. She was awarded the Martin Music Scholarship and John Philip Sousa band awards this year, and freshman of the year in 2010. Raven has held the offices of junior representative and vice president of band council. She has participated in the past three musicals at the high school and traveled to France in 2012 with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Flint Institute of Music. She was a member of HOSA and currently works at Insight Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroscience. Raven plans to double major in Neuroscience and Medical Technology at Michigan State University in the fall.

Whitney Reynolds is the daughter of Sharon and Edward Reynolds. She has been active in her participation in various clubs and organizations throughout her high school career beginning with student council freshman year. As a senior, Whitney was Vice President of the executive board over the council. As a junior, Whitney was inducted into National Honor Society and was the Parliamentarian her senior year. In addition, Whitney joined HOSA as a junior and was elected President her senior year. As a requirement to be a member of HOSA, Whitney completed a two year medical course in which she became vital sign competent as well as HIPAA and CPR/AED certified. Whitney was appointed the position as Junior Representative on the Carman-Ainsworth Board of Education and continued her position as a senior. Moreover, she became the student representative on the Local College Access Network as a senior. In athletics, Whitney joined the junior varsity tennis team as a sophomore and was awarded Most Valuable Player at the one singles position. Whitney participated on the varsity tennis team both her junior and senior years. In the fall, Whitney will attend the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor to study Business/Pre-Law in hopes of becoming a corporate lawyer.

Douglas Robinett is the son of Teresa Robinett-Staffne and Ronald Staffne. He has completed Biotechnology at Genesee Area Skill Center, which is the second year of Forensic Science. Because of this, he has received countless awards and certificates. His favorite extra-curricular activity was HOSA. He will be attending Kalamazoo College where he received a $52,000 scholarship.

 

Tara Schubring is the daughter of Gena and James Schubring. She was on the Honor Roll all four years of her high school career. Tara has been a member of the National Honor Society her junior and senior year and she was a proud member of the The 21 Club. Tara has volunteered at the Crim medical tent, North End Soup Kitchen, and at church. She has participated in many fund raising activities and has generously given her time to many non-profit organizations. Tara will be attending the University of Michigan-Flint in the fall.

 

Nusayba Tabbah is the daughter of Jenan Jondy and Jalal Tabbah. Nusayba was actively participating in various clubs, organizations, and extracurricular activities. She was a member of HOSA, and she placed first in both regional and state competitions in the poster design division. She was also a member of the MSA (Muslim Students Association) on which she held the position of Public Relations Chair. Nusayba competed in the Congressional Art Competition and placed second overall. Her artwork is being displayed at the Flint Institute of Arts. She has also had her artwork displayed in state shows and in the University of Maine. Nusayba has volunteered for many causes including the Healing Flint conference, Ross Manor Nursing Home, Day of Dignity food and clothing drive, and soup kitchens in downtown Flint. She plans to study engineering at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and is undecided about the specific field of study. She hopes she can create innovative technology and have a direct, positive impact on people’s lives.

 

Jaylend Todd is the son of Jenny Amidon and Jay Todd. He was involved in the C.B.I. program which he then began to work at the Italian restaurant Ruggero’s. He has enjoyed the food, people, as well as being able to purchase items he wants. He has worked hard in his education and he graduated with gold cords and Highest Honor. He would like to continue his education as well as continue working in his near future.

 

Samantha Wolf is the daughter of Joe and Monica Wolf. She was the wrestling statistician for two years, and a member of HOSA for two years as well. In her two years with HOSA she participated in many volunteer experiences such as the American Red Cross Blood Drive, American Cancer Society walk and the Cystic Fibrosis walk. She plans to attend Central Michigan University in the fall and study Biomedical Sciences. From there she would like to enter Physician’s Assistant graduate school. Samantha plans to eventually become a Pediatric Physician’s Assistant.

The Cavalier Band & Orchestra Boosters are sponsoring a Dodge Test-Drive Event on Saturday, June 1 at Carman-Ainsworth High School. The event will run from 10:00am – 1:00pm. For every driver (up to the first 250 participants) with a valid Driver’s License who participates, Dodge will donate $20.00 back to our organization. The test-drive only takes about 5 minutes and the only obligation is to complete a brief survey. All participants must be 21 years of age or older. You may choose to drive on behalf of a specific band or orchestra student and that individual will earn $10.00 towards his/her individual account.

Also on June 1, the CA Instrumental Music Department is holding its Annual Car Wash at Patsy Lou Williamson’s Auto Lot on Linden and Corunna Roads from 10:00am – 3:00pm. The Car Wash is free, with donations being accepted
