Additional information by grade level:

Seniors

  1. Senior Exit Presentations are on the minds of students and teachers alike.  Presentations will take place beginning in April and will be finished before seniors’ last day.
  2. Scholarships!  Numerous scholarships are out there awaiting applications.  Check the CAHS website, or the copy of the list in the Career Center.
  3.  Your student should bring in copies of any scholarships they have been offered.  We will enter them into the Honors Program.  This includes scholarships from schools that they are not attending/accepting the scholarship.
  4.  Usually, we warn about the warm weather distracting our senior students.  With the current weather conditions, that is not a fear so far this year!!!!  But seriously, help your senior to stay dedicated to his/her studies right up until final exams.

Juniors

  1. Watch the mail for your student’s MME/ACT results.  Be sure that your results will meet the requirements of your student’s post-secondary goals.  Retaking the ACT is a possibility if your student wants to attempt a higher score for college entrance.
  2. Be sure to ask your junior student about the “to do” list.  It was given to them by their counselors during English 11 classroom lessons.
  3. If your student is an athlete and plans on participating in college sports, he/she must register at the NCAA Eligibility Center (www.eligibilitycenter.org).  Students must have 16 core credits with at least a 2.0 GPA to be eligible.  If unsure, have your student ask her/his counselor.
  4. Begin looking for a summer job or volunteer experience.

Sophomores

  1. 10th graders will receive their ACT (released) test scores during the school day from their math teachers, with an interpretation of what this means for future MME/ACT prep.
  2. Your student should continue to work at homework, projects and diligently studying for tests.  The average time a sophomore studies is ten minutes for every grade level (100 minutes) daily.
  3. Here is a great resource for tips on studying http://digitalstudyhall.com.
  4. It is never too early to start working on volunteer activities for the summer.

Freshmen

  1. 9th graders will receive their ACT Plan scores during the school day from their math teachers, with an interpretation of what this means for future MME/ACT prep.
