Selena Mendoza was chosen, from the art department, as Rotary Student of the Month. Selena carries with her a grade point average of an overall 3.1; she also maintains an A standing in my Art III course. Although Selena does not have a plethora of academic achievements, she continues to thrive toward doing something, in her words, no-one in her family has ever done before: attending college. Being the recipient of “Foster Child of the Month” and the potential 1st generation college student, I believe Selena will endure and meet her accomplishment. Research has shown that the more students are engages in extracurricular events and activities, the more successful academically they will become. Selena is attempting just that by participating as a player on her soft ball team, entering countless art projects and competitions just to name a few. Her aspirations of becoming a CSI and a Criminal Investigator are attainable, and I believe she will do just that.
