Carman-Ainsworth High School Class of 2024 Honor Graduates
Sarah Abdelhay, daughter of Abdelhay Abdelhay and Kholoud Abu-Makhlouf, has been awarded First Year Student Merit Scholarship from University of Michigan – Flint; was accepted at University of Michigan – Ann Arbor as well as awarded the Jean-Fairfax Scholarship from University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. During her time at C-A she was dual-enrolled in Mott during senior year. Sarah also participated in Varsity Tennis for two years, MSA (Muslim Student Association) as President, was a National Honors Society member and volunteered at several events and programs at her local mosque.
Sarah currently plans on attending University of Michigan – Flint for a year and then transferring to the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. Though she remains undecided on her career path, she is considering education but also holds high interest in business/entrepreneurship and art/design. Sarah hopes to major/minor in those fields but plans to explore them individually throughout her college years in order to determine what interests her the most.
Obai Abdulhay is son to Dr. Ibrahim Abdulhay and Nadia Hattab. He participated in many activities throughout his high school career such as dual-enrollment at the University of Michigan – Flint, participating in MSA in both Carman-Ainsworth High School and U of M – Flint, as well as volunteering at Hurley. Obai plans on attending the University of Michigan – Flint where he received a Merit Scholarship. Obai plans to go into pre-medicine with a major in biology and eventually go to medical school in hopes of becoming a doctor.
Ibrahim Ahmed is the son of Fasiuddin and Shiguftha Ahmed. He played soccer and worked all throughout high school as well as attended Dual Enrollment classes his senior year. He has also tutored students in the Flint area since 8th grade. He received the Jean Fairfax Scholarship for the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and plans to dual major in statistics and economics there. He has enjoyed his four years in high school and is excited about what is to come next.
Alannah Childress, daughter of Tiara and Michael Childress. Alannah was involved in Student Council, NHS, Varsity Soccer, Marching Band, and Orchestra over her four years at CAHS. She has been awarded the Bronco Honors Scholarship and the Bronco’s Promise Scholarship and plans to attend Western Michigan University and major in aerospace engineering.
Kylie Fletcher is the daughter of Becky Fletcher and Ryan Fletcher. She played varsity softball for three years. Kylie received the Genesee GO Scholarship, Provosts Award (Penn State), Academic Achievement Scholarship (Oakland), Geographic Region Award (Oakland), and Two Michigan Achievement Scholarships (Oakland). She plans on attending Oakland University’s Honors College and majoring in exercise science to eventually become a pediatric physical therapist.
Makenzie Huffman is the youngest daughter of Daryn and Misty Huffman. During 8th, 9th and 11th grades, she played volleyball. MaKenzie was a member of National Honor Society throughout her entire high school career and became a part of E-Board as Treasurer this past year. She volunteered at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute during her senior year as well. For her secondary education, MaKenzie will be attending the University of Michigan – Flint for the BSN program. She plans to major in nursing and then become a neonatal nurse.
Taylor Hill was a part of National Honors Society as a member and Secretary; Student Council as a Representative; African American Student Association; and Link Crew. Taylor was awarded the Academic Achievement Award all four years of high school. She will be attending the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor this summer where she received the Jean Fairfax Scholarship awarding full-tuition. Taylor will be majoring in Business Management & Administration.
Safia Kachlan is daughter of Noor Sukkar and Mohd Majed Kachlan. She was dual-enrolled through Mott, and a member of MSA, NHS, Art Club, and Gardening Club. Safia plans to attend Mott for her first two years and plans on majoring in marketing with a minor in baking and pastry arts.
Makalah Martin is the daughter of Kenneth and Therasa Martin. She was a part of the swim team from 7th to 10th grade; in the marching band for five years (7th grade to senior year) and was the head drum major of the marching band for the past two years. Makalah was also one of the main characters in the musical The Wizard of Oz (as the Tin Man). She plans to attend University of Michigan – Flint to study theater, both performance and musical.
Ariyal Mays was in dual enrollment, volunteered, held two jobs – one at Taco Bell and the other at FIM (Flint Institute of Music). This year Ariyal also participated in Breakfast Club, Gardening Club, Art Club, GSA and AASA. She is planning on attending one of the three University of Michigan schools and major in business management/marketing. Ariyal’s future plan is to own her own real estate construction company.
Gillian Miller, daughter of Victoria Miller and Todd Miller participated in marching band for four years, Student Council for four years, NHS for one year, and attended GCI for Veterinarian Medicine. She will be attending U of M – Flint for four years to do undergrad studies then transfer to MSU College of Veterinary Medicine.
Atlas Northrup’s parents are Darlene and David Northrup. Atlas was the secretary of both the CAHS theater/drama program and CA Prism. Atlas also volunteered at the Eastern Michigan Food Bank.
Atlas was on the honor roll and has been awarded the Deans Scholarship from SVSU, the First Year Opportunity Scholarships from U of M – Flint, and the Maroon and Gold Merit scholarship from CMU. Atlas plans on going to SVSU for a business management degree, and one day own a business.
Katrina Price is the daughter of Shawnta’ Price and Kevin Price. She was dual-enrolled, a member of NHS, a Link Leader (both junior and senior years), on Student Council, and in AASA (African American Student Association). During school she also worked at Old Navy and WalMart.
Katrina received the College Board’s National African American Recognition for Outstanding Academic Achievement and will be attending the University of Michigan – Flint for her 13th year and then transfer to Michigan State to major in Animal Science in hopes of becoming a veterinarian. She is considering a double major to also be a respiratory therapist.
Amr Rizk’s parents are Maged Rizk and Magda Rashad. While at C-A he participated in soccer and tennis, as well as being in Dual Enrollment. Amr plans to attend University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, majoring in either chemistry or biology, and wants to become a dentist.
Mackenzie Robins is the first daughter of Stacie Robins. She has participated in many unforgettable experiences at Carman-Ainsworth this past year. She was a National Honor Society member, played flute in the marching band, and played as a first flute in Carman-Ainsworth’s Symphony Band, as well as the Freshman Concert band for fun. She also played piccolo for a concert in the spring. Mackenzie has been involved in the theater consisting of the collage concert with the choir, and this year’s musical where she led as the main character; Dorthy, from the Wizard of Oz. She was also a member of the school’s Gay/Straight Alliance where they promote diversity and rights for everyone regardless of their sexuality. Mackenzie will be attending the University of Michigan – Flint in the fall where she will dual major in arts and music. She will also join the theater program and may eventually participate in Ann Arbor’s marching band.
SaQuarius Stephens is daughter of Tammy Crowder and Deric Small. She was involved with African-American Student Association (AASA), an ambassador for National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS), National Honors Society (NHS), Link Crew, Manager at Claire’s/Icing, along with volunteering with the neighborhood block club, and doing science research.
SaQuarius has been awarded the Jean Fairfax scholarship, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, where she plans to attend and major in pharmacy. She wants to pursue opportunities to broaden her experience/knowledge and minor in a degree to become a nutritionist.
Lorelei Thornton, daughter of Jeff and Jennifer Thornton, is grateful for her time at C-A and all of the opportunities, achievements, and friends the experience has given her. She’s spent her time at C-A as a member of many clubs and school organizations such as being a part of multiple shows like “The Wizard of Oz” and “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” being the treasurer for both the Drama and Gardening Clubs, former president of Art Club, and also a member of NHS. Currently a Dual Enrollment student at U of M Flint and an usher at the FIM, Lorelei plans to continue the path she is on through the next year. She has been awarded scholarships from Genesee Valley Rotary as 2024 Student of the Year and from McDonald’s as the 2023 Michigan Mural Project winner, and plans to apply for more scholarships next year, as well as colleges, to continue her education after Dual Enrollment.
Jayden Trask’s parents are Kenneth Trask and Sarah Law. Jayden was involved in Varsity Golf and Student Council. Future plans consist of attending Michigan Technological University to major in Mechanical Engineering. Jayden has been awarded the Distinguished Leader Award, Michigan Tech Excellence Award, and Presidential Gold Scholars Award.
